Miss June 2012 – Kate Turnipseed

Kate Turnipseed – Director of Programming & Development / Producer

Kate grew up in Alabama where thought of working in television or film was always just a distant dream. She was hopelessly addicted to 80′s flicks and enjoyed finding continuity errors in films for sport. Her love of production was just a hobby until she went to The University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) where she was mentored and encouraged by Emmy award winning “Seinfeld” Director, Tom Cherones, and writer, Joyce Keener. They were the ones who told her, “You just have to move out to Hollywood and see what happens.” Taking that piece of simple advice has turned into a career in television spanning almost 10 years. She climbed the ladder, has been involved in all aspects of production, and has produced shows for NBC, TLC, MTV, HGTV, WETV, and BRAVO. Kate is known by her nickname, “Turnip” and is a producer or “problem solver” through and through. The job of finding creative solutions to bring stories to life pretty much rocks!

Kate has chosen Planned Parenthood as her charity because it is very important for everyone, especially women, to have access to sex education and reproductive health care. When she first moved to LA and was working as a production assistant, she couldn’t afford health insurance, but with the help of Planned Parenthood she could get her vital check ups every year. Ladies stay healthy, visit your gynecologist every year!
